Shaffer Announces Nearly $950,000 for Public Safety, Recreation and Infrastructure Projects in Allegheny County

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jeremy Shaffer (R-Allegheny) announced nearly $950,000 in state funding has been awarded to municipalities in the 28th District, which covers part of Allegheny County, through the Local Share Account (LSA) grants and the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) to support infrastructure improvements and community development.
“I’m proud to work in a bipartisan manner to secure funding that improves public safety, infrastructure and long-term planning for our communities,” Shaffer said. “LSA funding is used to support projects that improve public infrastructure, safety and quality of life.”
The following LSA grants were awarded:
• Township of Pine via Allegheny County Redevelopment Corporation (ACRA) - $200,000 for the construction of a sidewalk to connect the Pine Community Center to nearby residential areas along Warrendale Road.
• Hampton Township - $200,000 for the Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a 108-foot aerial fire truck.
• Richland Township - $100,000 for the purchase of a maintenance truck that will be used to haul materials and help clear snow and ice on area roads.
• Richland Township - $96,870 for the hiring of a consultant to develop an updated comprehensive plan reflecting current community needs and goals.
• Richland Township Municipal Authority - $200,000 for the replacement of a waterline along Meridian Road that has experienced frequent breaks and serves over 4,500 customers.
Shaffer also announced GTRP funding for funding that expand recreational access and improve pedestrian safety in local communities.
“These investments reflect our commitment to building safer, stronger and more connected communities,” Shaffer said.
The following GTRP grants, funded by natural gas impact fees, were awarded:
• Bradford Woods Borough - $50,000 for proposed pedestrian improvements on portions of Bradford Road and Forest Road in Bradford Woods and Forest Road Extension in Marshall.
• Township of Pine - $100,000 to extend the Pine Park Wetland Trail.
Both programs are administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support infrastructure, recreation and community enhancement projects across Pennsylvania.
