Route 910 Project Updates
Route 910 is an important, heavily traveled road that connects many communities across northern Allegheny County. Any driver who has traveled this route has experienced many projects currently and in the recent past. Across all the work from the 910/Interstate 79 intersection to the significant drainage replacement, subsurface rebuilding, and repaving along most of the 910 corridor, nearly $100 million is being invested.
I interviewed Steve Sneddon, a senior assistant construction engineer with PennDOT, in late August to get an update on the projects that are currently being completed.

Why are so many road and lane closures required for the work along 910 in Richland and West Deer townships? And how can I know when they are happening?
Answer: PennDOT officials have stated there is a large amount of work besides a simple repaving on 910 in Richland and West Deer townships. Some of this work includes significant slope stabilization and slide repairs. Also, many subsurface improvements are being made including the replacement of 93 drainage pipes that cross underneath the road.

There are many patches and rough spots after all the work being done in Richland and West Deer township. Will the road stay this way?
Answer: PennDOT has replaced numerous pipes and subsurface problem areas along 910. The rough spots in Richland and West Deer township are temporary patches. A full repaving will be made by the end of the project.
Why did we lose one of the two turning lanes to head southbound on I-79 from 910?
Answer: PennDOT temporarily closed one of the two turning lanes that allowed drivers to make the left turn onto I-79 southbound as work was being done. Both lanes are now re-opened and should stay re-opened other than for short periods.
What light is being removed on the 910/I-79 area
Answer: The current light that is for traffic exiting and entering northbound I-79 will be removed. All of these entry points will be moved to the other end (west side) of 910. PennDOT has said that this should dramatically improve traffic flow.
